Here is an NXT Frog that is Modified from the book: The Lego Mindstorms NXT Zoo

What you need:

1.  The Lego Mindstorms NXT Zoo!: A Kid-Friendly Guide to Building Animals with the NXT Robotics System by Fay Rhodes (Paperback – Feb 1 2008)

2. An NXT Set (2 NXT Sets For the Remote Program.)

3. Rubber Thumbs

What you do:

Build the NXT Frog in the Book.
Then use the LDD file to make modified version of the the robot. (Just the back motor)

1. Put tape on the back Motor part.

2. Then add a rudder thumbs

3. After that but on a elastic band to keep them in place.

Programs:

There are a total of 3 NXT Programs that I have Created. 1 program call Random that moves the frog at random speeds and a pair of programs that turn the NXT Frog into a remote control frog. To download them, scroll to the end of the page and select which one you would like to download.

How to make a remote Control Frog (Requires 2 NXT’s)

Here is how to step up the Remote Control Frog:
1. Build the controller with the picture that I have or the L.D.D. file.

2. Then, Download the two rbt files. (Frog is for the Frog. Remote is for the remote.)

4. Open both of the files by click on them on the desktop or where you saved it.

5. Download Remote.rbt to the Controller NXT (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

6. Download Receiver.rbt to the The NXT Frog. (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

7. (Skip this step if you know that bluetooth is on and discoverable) Go to the Bluetooth menu one the Tribot and make sure it is discoverable and Bluetooth is on.

8. (Skip this step if you have connected with your other NXT before) Use the NXT that is one the remote go to search and search for it click on you other NXT and click one connection one (number one) and click connect. Enter a passkey on both NXT’s (Make sure that they are the same.) Skip the next step.

9. Go to My Contacts click your other NXT then click on Connect.

10. Run the Remote Program on the NXT

11. Run the Receiver program on the Other NXT

12. Press the orange button where it is neutral (middle). You can see the same thing one the screen. (Or the place where the nxt came says witch is back and witch is forward.).

Controls:

To Move Forward: Move the paddle forward.
To Move Backwards: Move the paddle backwards.
To Turn: Sorry, You can’t due to one Motor
Notes: You have do step 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11 every time that you want to use the robots.

NXT Dragster 2.0

Note: Here is my new improved Dragster. The updated version from 1.0 and 1.5. Hope you like it.

Welcome race fan, get ready to build a NXT Dragster, Program it and don’t forget to make the drag strip. This awesome dragster pulls a wheelie while racing down the track.

Key Features:

1. Pops a Wheelie
2. An adjustable wheelie bar lets you control how high the wheelie at the start will be and how long the dragster will hold the wheelie. Gears are used to speed up the NXT motors to achieve more top speed during the run.
3. It times it self. (Displays Time after each run.)
4. Has 4 sensors on board.
a. Ultrasonic for avoiding crashes,
b. Color for detecting the finish line and start line.
c. Accel to see how big the wheelie is. How much if a slate.
d. Compass to see where it is heading.
5. Requires 2 NXT so you can see the data from the sensors wireless.

What you need:
Computer with NXT-G software plus Lego Digital Designer.
2 NXT’s
Hitechnic Compass Sensor
HiTechnic Accel Sensor
HiTechnic Color Sensor.

Building NXT Dragster 2.0

Step 1: Using the LDD file build the dragster. Note: All the parts that are not connected to the main body. Those are needed to build the rest of NXT Dragster 2.0. (All the parts in the ldd file is all you need.) The only problem is that LDD can not put beams a a very certain angles. Note: Their is an extra NXT in the LDD file. That is used as your hand held NXT. The hand held NXT is used for giving you data from the sensors right in the middle of the drag run using bluetooth. O.k so their are 3 sections that I could not attach to the main body in lego digital designer.

a) The Back Wing. (e.g of Back Wing on NXT Dragster 2.0)

b) The color sensor. A beam needs to be attached or the color sensor won’t be in the right position

c) Connecting the NXT to the body. (The NXT is already connected but their is one more connection to be made, or the NXT will not be stable.) Connection means by Technic parts Scroll down to build the rest of NXT Dragster 2.0

Add the Back Wing:

Step 1: Connect the Cross Axle 8 (2) to the motors. (Do this step 2 times.)

Step 2: Add the Bush for Cross Axle to the Cross axle 8. (See picture on the top right for details) (Do this step 2 times)

Step 3: Connect the back wing to the Cross Axle. (Picture of the Back wing on Dragster is top right.) (Back Wing in LDD is also here if you have trouble finding it.)

Stabilize Color Sensor

O.k. for the color sensor to work you have to add a Technic Angular 4X4 beam so it does not move back and forth. As you can see the beam is one hole up then it should be. Use the pictures to help you. O.k. you are done with building Dragster 2.0 but their is 1 more thing we need to cover. Scroll down to continue.

Connect NXT to Dragster 2.0

Step 1: Connect the NXT using the Double Anguler Beam 3X7 45 (degrees) (See Pictures)

Dragster Wheels – What You Need to Know

If you want this dragster to pop a wheelie. You need to choose the right wheels. If you don’t you will have to add extra weight on the Dragster to make the wheelie. The best wheels are in the top picture. These wheels are in the Lego education resource set and I think in lego education base set. You will always get a wheelie. The second best are in the middle picture. These wheels are in the retail version of Lego Mindstorms NXT 1.0 Set. They will sometimes work. You might have to add extra weight to the back of NXT Dragster 2.0. The last, and worst are the wheels in the bottom picture. You will have to add weight to the back.

Building the Drag Strip

What you need:  5 pieces of black construction paper. 1 roll of tape 1 pair of scissors 1 hunk of sticky tack (note sticky tack not in picture)

Step 1: Fold 1 piece of black paper in half.

Step 2: Unfold the piece of paper and cut along the crease using your scissors.

Step 3: Position the piece of paper (just one half), and tape to the floor. This is your starting line

Step 4: Using the rest of the black sheets of paper. (4 sheets) Create your finish line. Use the picture to help you. Once it is in position. Sticky tack it to the floor. You are done making the drag strip. Now it is time to program. Note: Please make sure their is at least 1 NXT Dragster 2.0 in length at those sides of the starting and finishing line. Why? Because you have to put the NXT Dragster 2.0 behind the starting line. Also after the finishing line because it coasts to stop. and it should not run into things. (Please look at the left and right picture for details.)

The Programs

Here are the 2 programs that need to be downloaded on to the NXT.

Here is a run through of them: NXT Dragster 2.0:

1. Move forward and stops on the starting line.

2. Countdown begins.

3. Dragster goes in high gear and pops a wheelie.

4. Dragster finds the finish line.

5. Dragster stops.

6. Dragster shows Drag Run Time.

Hand Held NXT Remote: 1. Press orange button to start getting messages.

2. Displays data of the NXT Dragster Sensors.  The Hand Held NXT has to be connected to the dragster using bluetooth. The Book that came with your NXT should show you how. More Bluetooth Notes: The hand held NXT is the Master and the NXT Dragster 2.0 is the slave.

Do you hate counting reps for your push ups or Sit up? Do you hate timing your self when doing a plank? If you answer yes to these questions you should try NXT Trainer.

Key Features:

Counts Push – Ups and Sits – Ups
Times you when you do a plank.
Writes reps and time on files on the nxt so you can download them onto your computer and see how many reps you did in total.

Notes: You have to edit the programs and make my blocks for the main programs to work.

Here is the sensor port list:

Touch Sensor = Port 1

Sound Sensor = Port 2

Light Sensor = Port 3

Ultrasonic Sensor = Port 4

How to do Sit-Ups With NXT Trainer:

1. Put NXT Trainer on a table so every time you do a sit up, the Ultrasonic sensor detects your head.

2. Turn on the NXT and Select NXT Trainer Program.

3. Select Sit – Ups in the next window. (Number 0)

4. Lie down and get ready to do a sit up.

5. Say go while lying down.

6. The NXT should say start.

7. Start doing your sit – ups.

8. Every time you do a sit – up their should be a tone to tell you that the ultrasonic sensor detected you. (If you stay in sight of the sensor to long. The NXT Trainer will count it more than 1.)

9. When you are finished lie back down, and stay down. The NXT should stay Stop, and yo can look at how many sit ups you have done.

How to do Planks With NXT Trainer:

1. Put NXT Trainer under your stomach.
2. Turn on the NXT and Select NXT Trainer Program.

3. Select Plank in the next window. (Number 1)

4. Get into your plank position

5. Say go while in the plank positions.

6. The NXT should say start, and the timer will start.

7. When you want to stop. Put your stomach on the touch sensor. (Note: Do not put your full weigh on it).

8. The NXT should say stop, and you will get to see the time of your plank.

How to Do Push Ups With NXT Trainer:

1. Put NXT Trainer under your stomach.
2. Turn on the NXT and Select NXT Trainer Program.

3. Select Push Ups in the next window. (Number 3)

4. Get into your push up position position

5. Hover your thump above the light sensor. The NXT should say go.

6. Every time you go down. Your stomach should touch the touch sensor. After being touch, the display will update with how many push ups you have done. (If you stay on the sensor to long. The NXT Trainer will count it more than 1.)

7. When you are done doing push – ups hover your finger over the light sensor. The NXT should say stop.

How to Download the File off the NXT:

1. Connect your NXT and Start the Mindstorms NXT-G Software. Open a new document.

2. Select the NXT Window. Note: Make sure your NXT is connected

3. Go to the memory tab. (See picture top right)

4. Select Other

5. Select your file:
e.g.
a) Sit-Ups Count
b) Plank Times (M)
c) Plank Time
d) Sit-Ups Count
Note: M Stands for Milliseconds

Step 6: Click Upload. (Note: Upload means upload the file from the NXT to the Computer)

Step 7: Select where you want the file to be saved.

How to use Happy Birthday Bot

1. Download the two rbt files to the NXT

2. Make sure that the Motors are attached to Ports A and C in the remote and the motors that drive the NXT are in b and C and A is for the Motor that has the Flash light.

4. Open both of the files by click on them on the desktop or where you saved it.

The Second Version to the of my Dragster.

Do you want to build a Dragster? Well if you do here you go. This is my first version. (Version 1.5 is alre

ady here, and Version 2.0 is coming soon!) To build this dragster use the ldd file then use the pictures to do the gears and axle. This is an easy projects so I should only take about 15-20 minutes to build.

The things you need are an NXT set.
Color Sensor and Compass Sensor (Sold form Hitechnic)
Computer with NXT-G Software.

Building Dragster 1.5

Here are the instructions to build this dragster.

1. Download the LDD

2. Use the picture to build the Axles and gear chain. Note: If you need more pictures I can get more. Just post a comment. If you need some help here are some text help:

Steps for Step 2:
a) Put an 12 axle throught the first motor.
b) Slide the axle through a 40 gear.
c) Put the gear next to the middle motor.
d) Slide the Axle through the middle motor.
e) Put the 40 tooth gear on the 12 axle.
f) Slide the 40 tooth gear so it touch the middle motor.
g) To get the second gears on use the main picture.

2. Put down a peice of balck constrution paper, and tape it two the floor. this is going to be the Finishing line.

To start a race:

1. Put the dragster behind the starting line, not on it.

2.Start the program.

3. The Dragster will start rolling forward.

4. When I gets to the line I should stop.

5. It will sound the count down.

6. It will Move forward racing. 7

 When I gets to the finish line it will stop. 8. it will show it time in seconds/milliseconds. (Note: If find the line please make the start/finish line bigger.) If there is any problems with the program please comment.

This is my first NXT Dragster.

Do you want to build a compant Dragster? Well if you do here you go. This is my first version.  To build this dragster use the ldd file then use the pictures to do the gears and axle. This is an easy projects so I should only take about 15-20 minutes to build. To build the Dragster V. 1.0 please scroll down. Note: If you have an Hitchnic Color sensor and a Compass Sensor, you can build the Dragster Version 2.0. In the version 2.0 it looks more like a dragster and does not have the light sensor program. And has more features! To get the Dragster Version 2.0 click projects on the top and select it. Please note that Version 2.0 is better than Version 1.0.

Please note that you can replace the light sensor with a colour sensor.

Building Dragster 1.0

Back Balls (A new way of transportation)

Do you want to make a robot on Halloween? Does that robot that you want to make a robot that delivers Candy? Well if you do then this is the Robot for you.

What you need:

1 Mindstorms NXT Set (retail Version)
1 Lego Mindstorms Education NXT Set

The Idea

Well it was Halloween (2008) I wanted you make a project for Halloween. I had an a idea! (But it was not this project) The idea was that I would build a robot that would hang over my door. When I opened the door I would press the orange button on by remote NXT and the base NXT would start one motor witch I would release the string and drop down right in front of the door. But my front door as not usable. Then I had a second idea (this project) with wheels instead of string. I worked on that project and made it work great but there was one problem. The iPod Touch was not Allowed in the Challenge so I made this Version 1.5 of Halloween Candy Delivery Bot. To see the Version 1.0 of Halloween Candy Delivery Bot you can: Look at the other picture with the iPod Touch.

The Design

Well, this is how a build Halloween Candy Delivery Bot Version 1.5. Well I already had Halloween Candy Delivery Bot Version 1.0 so I just changed the top. But if I started from scratch. I would: Firs

t start with the back wheels/balls. How I got the idea of using balls was from the

Back Wheels (Balls)

The second thing that I worked on is the back wheels (balls) I got the idea when read a Book called The Lego Mindstorms NXT Idea Book. I look at the back of the ‘Beach Buggy Chair’ which used the balls in the set. I tweaked them a and made them work with the Halloween Candy Delivery Bot. If you want to see more pictures of the back they are posted here. To build them use the LDD file. The Lego Digital Designer File does NOT contain the whole project just the back part.

Building the Halloween Delivery Candy Bot

Use LDD File to build Sections then use the steps to connect parts together.

Step 1: Connect the Technic 5M beam to the Base on both sides.

Step: 2: Connect the Technic 9M beam to the Technic 15M beam on both sides.

Step 3: Take the Axle on one of the motors and slip it threw the 15M beam. Then but a gear on it. (Note: Do this step on both sides.)

Step 4: Build the model using the pictures. How it goes is the wheel, Cross Axle 7M, then Bush for Cross Axle, and a gear.

Step 5: Connect the wheel model that you just build to the Main model, then the Technic 15M beam on the axle ,then add a bush for Cross Axle.  Note: Do this on both sides.

Step 6: Get a box and some scissors or something that cuts cardboard and make sure the box was these things no top/lid, 9.5 cm width, 17.5 cm length, and 9 cm in height.

Step 7: Up the box that you cut out in place and tape it to the model using these areas. After step 7 you are finished building the model.

Step 8: Connect the free beam on the other side of the “X”.

Step 9: Make sure this part looks like the picture below.

Step 10: Connect the part to the model and cut a piece of paper out about the same size as the square and say happy halloween on it then tape it on to the square.  Connect the motors to CB and the touch sensor to 1. Note: if you want more detailed instructions please comment.

Getting Started with the Robot

When you finished building it you can put candy bars in the box in the back on the vehicle and Lays Chips at the front.

Download the two rbt files the left one goes to the remote and the right one goes to the car/model. (The model that you just built) (Note:You should download them one at a time, then rename them because when I uploaded it they where both NXTLogFile as there name.) How to connect the NXTs with bluetooth.

1. (Skip this step if you know that bluetooth is on and discoverable) Go to the Bluetooth menu one the Tribot and make sure it is discoverable and Bluetooth is on.

2. (Skip this step if you have connected with your other NXT before) Use the NXT that is one the remote go to search and search for it click on you other NXT and click one connection one (number one) and click connect. Enter a passkey on both NXT’s (Make sure that they are the same.) Skip the next step.

3. Go to My Contacts click your other NXT then click on Connect.

4. Run the program on the remote NXT

5. Run the other program NXT Here is what you do when you run the program: 1. On the hand held NXT it will say Press Orange button to begin.2. When you the the orange button the NXT on the floor will move 4 rotation or (I think) 1.2 meters I cannot be sure. And it will say on the hand held NXT Sended which means the NXT sent the bluetooth (Note: you may have to change this in the program.) 3. After it has move you you can press the touch sensor and the the NXT on the Ground will go back. Then you can repeat the program again.

Do you want to make a robot on Halloween? Well if you do then this is the Robot for you.

What you need:

1 Mindstorms NXT Set (Retail Set)
1 Lego Mindstorms Eduction NXT Set

The Idea

Well it was Halloween (2008) I wanted you make a project for Halloween. I had an a idea! (But it was not this project) The idea was that I would build a robot that would hang over my door. When I opened the door I would press the orange button on by remote NXT and the base NXT would start one motor witch I would release the string and drop down right in front of the door. But my front door as not usable. Then I had a second idea (this project) with wheels instead of string.

The Design

Well I started three days before Halloween. I started with the front iPod Touch 1st Generation Holder. Then I built on from there. I needed to find a unique  transportation system. (See below) If you want to just download the acutal holder just use the link below.

 iPod Touch App for Halloween Candy Delivery Bot

The Program for the iPod Touch is Crazy Pumpkin by Ezone. You can find the program in the iTunes store. This App it is free. $0.99 It is used in the front of the robot so it looks like I attached a pumpkin to my robot. So it look more like a halloween bot and just not a candy delivery bot.

Back Wheels (Balls)

The second thing that I worked on is the back wheels (balls) I got the idea when read a Book called The Lego Mindstorms NXT Idea Book. I look at the back of the ‘Beach Buggy Chair’ which used the balls in the set. I tweaked them a and made them work with the Halloween Candy Delivery Bot. Now it is time to use the 1st Gen iPod Touch holder and the Back Wheels to create the bot. If you want to just download the acutal holder just use the link below.

Building the Halloween Delivery Candy Bot

Use LDD File to build Sections then use the steps to connect parts together.

Step 1: Connect the Technic 5M beam to the Base on both sides.

Step: 2: Connect the Technic 9M beam to the Technic 15M beam on both sides.

Step 3: Take the Axle on one of the motors and slip it threw the 15M beam. Then but a gear on it. (Note: Do this step on both sides.)

Step 4: Build the model using the pictures. How it goes is the wheel, Cross Axle 7M, then Bush for Cross Axle, and a gear.

Step 5: Connect the wheel model that you just build to the Main model, then the Technic 15M beam on the axle ,then add a bush for Cross Axle.  Note: Do this on both sides. Right and Left.

Step 6: Get a box and some scissors or something that cuts cardboard and make sure the box was these things no top/lid, 9.5 cm width, 17.5 cm length, and 9 cm in height.

Step 7: Up the box that you cut out in place and tape it to the model using these areas. After step 7 you are finished building the model.

The Games You Can Play With the Mini Gun

Note: WHEN YOU PLAY THESE GAMES YOU SHOULD WEAR SUNGLASSES TO PROTECT YOUR EYES!!! There are some games you can play with the Mini Gun. The First Game (Catch the bullet): What you need: This model with the NXT and program installed. Two Players How to play: 1. Player 1takes the Gun and fires at player two. 2. Player 2 wants to catch it in mid air with one or two hands. 3. If Player 2 drops the bullet they switch. if you player two gives it back to Player 1 and player 1 fires again. Keep repeating in till someone drops it 3 times. The Player who does not drop it is the winner. Game 2 (1 on 1): What you need: 2 or more Guns (this Model) 2 or more NXTs with the program installed. How you play: 1. Player 1 and 2 have 10 seconds to hid. Then they go looking for each other. 2. The idea of the game is to hit the opponent with the rubber bullet. 3. If player 1 or 2 gets hit the the game is other. The player that did not get hit is the winner.

Here is a Portable Back Scratcher Bot. That means you can get a back scratch, so scroll down and look. There are two different versions of this robot.

What are difference for each version: Well the design of each version. Version one uses only one Mindstorms NXT set while the second version uses two Mindstorms NXT sets.

You need:
A NXT Brick
One or two Mindstorms NXT sets (more detail will come.)
One Accel Sensor (optional)
2 NXT Motor
Accel Sensor:

If you have an Accel Sensor for Hitechnic, attach it to the NXT using port 4 and use the click the link to use the program with a the Accelerometer Sensor.

Motor:
Connect the motors to port C and BThe set up.

1. Start the program
2. Make sure the person that you are back scratch has only skin where you are doing it. (clothes will not work)
2. Press the orange button after you see the message
3. Start putting the wheels on the person back
4. Press the left or right button to change directions (you can do this one forever)
5. Press the grey button to end the program

Notes: IF YOU HAVE THE ACCELEROMETER SENSOR USE THE PROGRAM ON THE LEFT IF YOU DO NOT USE THE ONE ON THE RIGHT. You have to make each version two times. (Scroll down for more info)

Version 1 (two Mindstorms NXT Sets)

Here are the pictures you need to make Version 1. I think I have lots of pictures so try to build it. If you can not please reply to me. Also Connect the motors to C and B. If you have a Accel Sensor a add it to the NXT and put the wire on sensor port 4. Notes: you have to copy the this two times. After you make the first (the top picture)please copy it so you have two. Why do we have to use two sets? Because you need 8 gears and one set only has 6 gears.

Version 2 (One Mindstorms NXT set.)

You need Wheels to have this Version one and Version two to work. You can use the wheels from the Mindstorms NXT set or Lego Eduction Mindstorms NXt set. Here are the two types of wheels I like.

Here is what you all have been waiting for! Two NXTs one controlling the other. Here is what you need:
• 2 NXTs
• 1 Computer
• 4 motors

There will be two types of Versions like one with paddles and one that uses a Acceleration Sensor from hitechnic. You need to build a tribot for both versions.

Tribot:

Paddles Program:

1. First, you need to build a Tribot that I have given.

2. Build the controller with the picture that I have or the Lego Digital Designer File.

3. Then, Download the two rbt files.

4. Open both of the files by click on them on the desktop or where you saved it.

5. Download Remote.rbt to the Controller NXT (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

6. Download Receiver.rbt to the vehicle robot. (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

7. (Skip this step if you know that bluetooth is on and discoverable) Go to the Bluetooth menu one the Tribot and make sure it is discoverable and Bluetooth is on.

8. (Skip this step if you have connected with your other NXT before) Use the NXT that is one the remote go to search and search for it click on you other NXT and click one connection one (number one) and click connect. Enter a passkey on both NXT’s (Make sure that they are the same.) Skip the next step.

12. Press the orange button where it is neutral (middle). You can see the same thing one the screen. (Or the place where the nxt came says witch is back and witch is forward.). Controls: To move forward you put both paddles forward. To move backwards you put both paddles backwards. To turn you put one forward. To turn the other way you just witch paddles. To do a 360 you put one forward and back or the other way around. To Stop you put them in the middle. Notes: You have do step 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11 every time that you want to use the robots.

Acceleration Sensor Program

The motors are attached to C and B

1. First, you need to build a Tribot that I have given.

2. Build the controller with the picture that I have or the L.D.D. (The light sensor is the Acceleration Sensor in the L.DD. file)

3. Then, Download the two rbt files. 4. Open both of the files by click on them on the desktop or where you saved it. 5. Download HTRemHost.rbt to the Controller NXT (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

6. Download HTRemote.rbt to the vehicle robot. (DO NOT CLICK THE DOWNLAOD AND RUN)

7. (Skip this step if you know that bluetooth is on and discoverable) Go to the Bluetooth menu one the Tribot and make sure it is discoverable and Bluetooth is on.

8. (Skip this step if you have connected with your other NXT before) Use the NXT that is one the remote go to search and search for it click on you other NXT and click one connection one (number one) and click connect. Enter a passkey on both NXT’s (Make sure that they are the same.) Skip the next step.

9. Go to My Contacts click your other NXT then click on Connect.
